    Mare in season....

Well I took my 11yo son and his 25yo mare horsecamping and trail riding this weekend. Soon as I took her off the trailer, she comes into heat REAL STRONG. She spent the whole weekend switching her tail, walking around the hitching rail and flirting in general with EVERY handsome dude she saw. Furthermore, she would freak if another horse got behind her. This was very scary for my son. What I want to know is .... is there anything I can give her to make these symptoms more manageable? I was wishing for a giant horsey Midol tablet all weekend.

Is there a supplement or herb or something that will help suppress some of these symptoms?

    Mare in season....

I do use Chaste Berry on Kate and it works great. Raspberry leaf is an other heab that is great. Our girl Kate looks at the boys and she is in heat... Have had to put her in the next paddock from Bear cause other wise she is in season all the time.. Someone also said that Collidial Silver in the water can help, one to be careful with though, cause you can turn a silver colour. Have you had her back checked that was something else suggested to me and yes she was.. Swollen ovaries can cause a problem too, that was with the last suggestion. Hope one of these help you.. :cheer:

    Mare in season....

Our mare Tash is a real cow when she come in season none of the other horses can even look in her direction. She squeels and chases Ram and they are usely best friends. And heven help any of the boys that look at her. As for getting her in foal she will not let Grant anywere near her. If he is out in his yard she will run to the other side of her yard and will not eat or drink till he gose back to his stabble. So looks like we will have to AI her to get her in foal .This mare is just to good not to get at least one foal from.
