Claudia Rest in Peace

I have been away from the computer a but more lately because my big ol' Clydesdale mare Claudia passed away last Sunday.
Claudia showed no sign of colic when I went out to ride her and within an hour she collapsed on the road while I was riding. I did not get hurt to bad. I managed to get her home and with the help of a friend we kept her walking for a few hours and got some meds in her. She seemed to be better standing on her own no longer dropping to roll. Yet, she was clearly exhausted. I came in for dinner and to get warm, then went out to put another blanket on her and she was gone.
The poor old gal, she was very much loved and will be very much missed. I made a promise to her that our place was her last stop, she had 13 owners before us. We had 9 great years together with lots of memories. I feel blessed to have had her in my life.

This is my favorite picture of her with my daughter, taken with a polariod camera, several years ago. Not the best quality but a great picture.

I am so sorry you lost her! How old was she? She certainly was lucky to find a forever home with you. I often wonder what happens to a lot of horses that are constantly changing hands. The poor things probably go through a lot.

Post edited by: estherj92, at: 2009/12/16 00:11
My horse's feet are as swift as rolling thunder
He carries me away from all my fears.
And when the world threatens to fall asunder
His mane is there to wipe away my tears.

Oh luvallbreeds, how aweful! Massive hugs to you and your furry family. I know Claudia was very very special, and how hard it is when they go, especially so frighteningly like that! She had the best home ever with you, the best 9 years of her life. She was so lucky to end up with you.

Ohhh I am so sorry to hear that Hugs to you and your daughter Luvallbreeds. It sounds awful - such a shock to have her 'go' like that but on the other hand she hasn't suffered much which can be seen as a blessing I think, no?
She will always hold her place. In your hearts. She isn't "gone". And I simply KNOW she has had a happy last 9 years of her life.
