I have been trying to sell it has been 1 month and 2 weeks ago sense I really worked with her, no wonder my ride on Lana was such an adventure yesterday.
I think I pushed Lana a bit to hard past her comfort zone.
I have been preoccupied with getting my older mares in shape and getting my 5 yr old Pintaloosa out on the trail I have been letting Lana slide. With no new interest as of late in her on the market she has been chillin' in the pasture. Then I get a call that a horse camp is interested in leasing her and I think I should ride her out on a trail ride to the pond and make sure her water crossings are still good. FYI..I have never rode Lana on the trail my daughter or someone else always did. My daughter rode her horse Cal' who also needed water crossing practice and away to the pond we went. After a brief refresher course of basic control on the ground, to make sure those go forward buttons were working.
A block for the house she baulked a bit of a batttle, but I stopped her and tapped with my crop right behind the girth and one step forward soon became several and we were off to pond.
Three miles later we arrived to a bevy of excitement and noise as spring is in the air and water fowl of every kind are making noise and have Lana's head high in the air and she is high stepping it back and forth but I am able to keep her moving forward toward the water crossing. My daughter's horse Cal' baulks at the water. Now I am not sure if it is the wild bird noises or the water but Lana is clearly acting upset so we decide to follow the road surroundng the pond and take the crossing from the other side, it is more open and less confined. Lana gets more upset which frightens my daughter and she asks me to dismount. I dismount and lead Lana to the water she enters with no baulking or resistance. Clearly it is the mating calls of several water fowl that has her thinking pteradactals are coming for her. The mare is shaking and fidgeting and I can not turn the birds off.
I tell my daughter to go ahead and work Cal with his water crossing I will lead Lana along and she rides off to work with Cal'. When they get behind a tree and Lana looses sight of Cal' it is just to much. Lana hit me with her shoulder I loose footing and land on my back on the ground and let her go. Off she runs homeward bound up a hill and away.
My daughter dismounts and we make a plan to get on top of the hill and ride Cal' double back home. When we look up and who comes running back but Lana :cheer: I wish I had a camera. It was like the great white horse coming back to save the hero. Actually she just realized it was more scary out there all alone.
I lead her back up the hill away form he scary water foal and found a nice stump and got back on. She was very nervous and frightened, but we concentrated on arena exercises drop your head, rate your speed. After about a mile and half she was calm head lowered and looose rein walked all the way home. If a bird flew over head and her head went up I asked for it to lower and she did great until we got to the driveway and my old dog came to greet me and she jumped sideways at the sight of him...LOL  Still a tad jumpy there.
She then got a bath and a rub down..me I had to change and meet my neighbor for our walk it is my exercise. :S
*note: she was not excepted to be leased to the kids horse camp she is to senstive to the bit and tosses her head. Kids are to heavy handed.
