    Long Time No See...

I looked and it seems I haven't been on here since last October! Been really busy. My little Pixie is still in training once a week. I have both of my human kids in therapy (long story) plus my son is taking guitar lessons, and my geriatric mare Sunny has been retired to graze until it's her time to go. Lots of changes. I am having confidence issues again, but it's most likely related to a panic disorder than anything that has happened (since nothing has actually happened). Pixie is better trained than she ever was, but I am just a bundle of nerves so of course I have been having a hard go of riding her. It's almost ridiculous since I have ridden that mare on long trail rides and stayed with her when she bolted and when she wanted to dance around instead of standing still but now that she is completely obedient I am nervous??? It's frustrating.

On another note, we have introduced Pixie to Playdays. My trainer rode her at the last one and will ride her at the next one this week. She was terrified during her first event, but seemed better her second time out and was even able to canter on the way out of the arena (she walked in the first event- or rather she mostly hopped sideways through the pattern). She seemed to enjoy the attention from the crowd. The scariest thing for her was going under the announcer booth and into the alley. She is very familiar with that arena, but that was her first time in it with lights, spectators, music and the announcer. Overall she did very well, but it was obvious she was very unsure about it at first.

I decided to completely retire Sunny. My "preferred" vet aged her at 25+ years old. I suspect she did not have an easy life in recent years. She's still sound, but I figure she has earned the chance to just hang out in the pasture. Not that I rode her very much anyway. She has allergies which is why her nose kept running. She is now on antihistamines and has cleared up. She's only snotty on high pollen days now. She's also back on Equine Senior and cannot have hay. She is positively fat. And you should see how shiny her coat is! She has come a long way since I got her. I don't need to ride her to enjoy taking care of her.

Gus found a new home where he will eventually be started and trained for a lady who is just his size. Gus never did get any taller and the woman he went to is just under 5 ft tall so it was a good match. She seemed to like him. I wish she'd email me and tell me how he's doing...

Charlie also found a new home. My mom sold him to a lady who runs a rescue and she in turn adopted him out to an older man who loves him. Normally rescues do not purchase from individuals, but I emailed and asked for help because my mom was going to take him to the auction and I hated for that to happen. So they did a fundraiser and were able to raise enough to buy him from her.

I am considering adopting another mare from the SPCA. I am happy just having the two, but Pixie is quite a bit more active than Sunny and I am considering that Sunny is getting up there in age. When she does pass, I don't want Pixie to be alone if I can help it. The mares I am looking at are in the 10-15 yr age range. Older than Pixie but still pretty young. Gus was a great companion for her, but he was younger and virtually unhandled. Besides, I am not as fond of the boy horses as I am girl horses. I don't know the background on the mares, but from the description I would bet they have at least been ridden before. Both are said to be completely comfortable with anything they are asked to do. I plan to go look at them next week if they are still available. It seems like a better deal than going to the auction and taking my chances.

Anyhow, that's all the major changes. Lots of little stuff going on in there as well, but too much to even consider writing about. I hope you all are doing well. I see lots of new faces online. Funny how that happens when you take a leave of absence...

    Long Time No See...

I'll get to that Good Morning post...probably a lot easier than trying to go through the thousands of individual ones, lol.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I adopted a Boxer from the animal shelter around the holidays. She was so thin and scared and I have rehabbed her and she is now most fabulous! She isn't fond of new dogs and she snaps at them at first, but she eventually warms up and wants to play. She's still shy around people too, but has never attempted to bite a person. She tends to hide behind my legs around new people. We named her Bailey. She's beautiful...
