High Strung TBs
Wow. today I had the most TB high strung moment EVER!!!! I rode my old boy (Tb) and my 2 sons rode their ponies with me. Riding at the Pony Club grounds. Fantastic so far, first time ever I have ridden with any of my children...such a neat feeling. Anyway, my fellow behaved beautifully but heading home it turned to custard. Some unknown power said
"Right, everything is going to good here lets stir it up" And with that every horse and I mean every horse (all TBs) jumped or smashed their way out of their paddocks.
And scared the living daylights out of my sons pony Gabby(not the other pony Rocky. he lives up to his name..., steady as a Rock) and she ended up dumping my son in the tussck grass and scooting off a hundred paces or so before freaking out like she was saying
"Oh my God, I am all alone here. Panic, what do I do? Human, must go back to the human"
So she trotted back to her crumpled rider with a help me look about her.
Then my Old fellow pranced like a Lippazenner(sp, yeah spelt wrong but what post of mine hasn't got spelling mistakes) and acting like he was 5 again.
My sons reined in their ponies and I the prancing old fart and watched 6 TBs run like the wind over, through and even under wire fences. They rounded up the 20 cows that were grazing peacefully and stampeded them off into the distance.
Then the cheeky sods came back at full tit towards us.
Sending calm reasurance to my sons I told them to "BLOODY HANG ON"...ok not so calm.
The horses ended up skidding to a stop before us and just as if someone flicked a switch they all turned into lovely quiet lambs, alright not lambs perhaps...how about calm horses that would never jump or run through wire fences. I had a look at all their legs to see the damamge the wire had done and would you believe....nothing.
We unsaddled, groomed then fed and finally put our horses away. Well I thought I put the old fart away but as I walked back to my car I saw a chestnut horse that looked so much like Zac(my Tb) that it stopped me in my tracks. Looking closer, uh huh it was Zac.
Big sh!t had jumped out of HIS paddock to join the others.
I played cat and mouse with him while I tried to catch him amongst the other TBs. (he has never been hard to catch but today, boy oh boy I could of screamed with fustration)
Finally caught him. My sons were leaning on the gate saying
"Good one Mum, he nearly had you pinned up against that horse that kicks!"
I was like
"Aye? What horse?"
Then SMACK, THUMP and SQUEAL as Zac and this other horse went to town with a kicking frenzy!!!!!
I am dangling off his neck. Dont know why, but thought his neck was the safest place to be so i held onto his mane for dare life.
Kinda had a feeling Zac was defending me.
Got him out of the fight by opening up a gate and shooting Zac through.
Ok all should be good now. I put him BACK into his paddock, thanked him dearly for his brave effort. Made sure he wasn't lame or anything too.
So here I was again heading towards my car and would you believe what happened next?
Yep, there was Zac amongst the herd of TBs. He had jumped out again. Yay,... not.
Did the cat and mouse game again with him, made certain we avoided Big Clobber Hooves (tb that kicks). Caught him then popped him with my minis.
That'll sort him. He shouldn't jump out of there as he has company and can still see the rouge TB herd. Plus he gets on fine with the minis, no fights or cause for concern. Just means I will have to put him back in his paddock tomorrow as there is not much grass in the mini paddock.
And thats how I left him. It was close to 8 at night by the time we left, no dinner and thirsty as. We were ment to only be gone for an hour but it turned into 3 hours of...well of high strung Tbs!!!!!!!

Post edited by: Nippy, at: 2007/02/27 10:29

Re:High Strung TBs
For you this must have been a scary experience (duh!) but the way you tell this makes me laugh  I just can see it like a comedy  I'm sure it must have been a serious incident and I'm happy you (and everybody else) stayed unharmed, Nippy!

Re:High Strung TBs
Nippy I am so happy to hear that you were not hurt that your kids are OK and the horses well as too. Zac no treats for the traitor..LOL. So weird all those rouge TBs decided to wait until you came along for a nice ride before making their escape. It does baffle me as well how horses can go thru', jump and around fences and not have a single mark on them. I take the bunch of 6 did not belong to you? So their owners were able to round them crazies up?

No all the Tbs had individual owners. And no they are still running together today. Everyone is at work, I take it that they will catch them after work. I would do it but the fences need fixing first and I haven't enough electric tape to fence off 6 big horses.
