Yes, that is lucky. I swear to you, after that, I was so scared to go out in pasture and the woods, thinking about that snake and in fear of stepping on it under leaves or something. ...... LOL. Now if it was in my barn..... I would be........

Post edited by: Snazzy, at: 2008/07/09 17:55

Formerly Tuffyspop here...had to create a new ID because the old one was corrupted and I couldn't read anything.

Tuffy has really recovered well from the bite. Not sure if he was envenomated, but the vet told us horses generally won't die from the actual bite, it's the secondary infection that can kill them. The tissue around the bite marks will necrophize (die) and turn ugly pretty quick, as you can see in the pictures above. The pennicillin right away was key to getting ahead of infection.

If you don't know how to give your own shots, it's pretty easy to learn. Although by day 5 of the penn. regimen, Tuffy was getting wise to needles...when I would swab his neck with the alcohol pad, he started his dancing. Grabbing his ear stopped him in his tracks, and I was able to get the needle in.

Urgh, looks nasty. I'm glad that is getting better and that Tuffy will be fine.
