    Slaughter Houses

I'm not saying that I support Slaughter(i hate it really badly) but out of curiosity how many slaughter houses are left in America.. I think I read some-where that said only three slaughter houses are left...... how many are there? oh yea if you know how many slaughter houses there are in the world that would be great.. Horse slaughter houses I meant this whole entire time... And again i do not support slaughter, Never did, don't, and never will.

    Re:Slaughter Houses

I don't know how many, but I know (from reading) that they make $62 million a year. Mainly from exporting horses meat to Europe. (I know in Europe eating horse meat is quite 'regular' and for example a dutch person - I mention these because I'm formerly Dutch, so I know - wouldn't think twice to buy horse meat. Some see it as a delicacy. Truly very strange. I've never tasted it, thanksGod.

100,800 American horses were slaughtered in three foreign-owned slaughter houses in the United States. Those slaughterhouses are the Dutch-owned Beltex, Dallas Crown Inc., and Cavel International, Inc.
See? I hadn't read this even....

Here you can find more information about the horse-slaughter industry. And, if ever anyone try to find fumble excuses for it, don't believe it: it's all about money. Nothing else: cruelty for money.

Off topic but I LOVE that photo ornetta. Is it a pic of your horse? So gorgeous, what a fantastic cuddle the boy is getting...ok the horse might not be cuddling but rather eating his shirt!

    Re:Slaughter Houses

I heard of a lady in my area who used to breed and sell her horses for meat. We are in New Zealand and I know 1 person who tried it and she didn't know what it was and was really upset when she found out it was horse. She said it was a nice meat but felt ill from guilt after eating it as she is a horse lover thru & thru... inch: The lady who was breeding for purpose of selling for meat made a lot of money and is still breeding horses but now she sells them as unhandled, unbroken to people.

    Re:Slaughter Houses

You know when I'm on Dutch forums there's nothing 'special' about horse meat. Like 'it's just another meat' - I was very surprised when I started to find that out, because from my youth, living there, I really cannot remember even 1 time having eaten horse meat. Just to think of it makes me wanne puke.

How is that in Australia? In the US? Is horse-meat a 'regular' meat?

In New Zealand horse meat is used as pet food. We have the odd horse in the area go missing and it has been used for dog food. My friend who ate it was in Europe somewhere I think.

    Re:Slaughter Houses

In the U.S. unless you eat one of your own, you will not see horse meat consumed by humans. Dog food yes and for zoos and wild life parks. The majority is shipped out to other countries. I know of no one nor have heard of anyone specificly raising horses for meat production like cattle. Then again if they did they surely would not tell anyone for fear of folks coming after them.
Still slaughter houses are in effect for the unwanted, old or injured. The sad thing is that many of the unwanted horses are nice horses, just unwanted.
I am not against slaughter houses, they have there place. I surely would never tell someone what they should and should not eat. I know some vegetarians out there that, that are shocked by the fact I raise a calf up to only butcher and eat. Not to mention our years of meat rabbit raising. My daughter was called evil for butchering bunnies in high school, but it was a way to make income for extra money.
I myself draw the line at babies, like I don't eat veal or lamb. Nor anything that I consider a pet, the list is long. Yet other countries have other feelings and cultures...by the way you won't find me eating insects either.

Okay, thank you Bears Boss and LuvallBreeds
It's like I thought: in Europe is 'mainstream' - but not so in other countries.
I won't tell anybody what to eat either, but still there's an instinctive disgust creeping up in me when I hear someone eats horsemeat like they eat any other meat (except maybe insects, monkeys and snakes orso :P )
