Re:Standerdbreds - 2006/10/21 10:01 I've had 6 standard breeds over the years and they are so trusting and easy mannered. I love them to bits. I had 1 break a leg 2 1/2 years ago and I miss her still too. She was nice to ride most of the time and had been taught to jump. Got my lad going now so am happy..

Re:Standerdbreds - 2006/10/21 22:36 I do not own a Standerbred..I plead guilty to thinking of them as big headed, hot horses..for some bizzare reason
My friend however rides and drives her standerbred, adopted from the track, Sonic a once stud. Now a gelding and he is the most awesome sweet loving boy and absolutely beautiful with a long flowing mane and tail. I have a whole new view of them now and think they are great. Even if he has no canter (she is working on that) he is a great trailhorse and wonderful horse to drive.

Re:Standerdbreds - 2008/10/23 10:00 I thought I would start this topic again - for the love of the Standardbred. I have owned a few over the years that I have lived with horses - but the one I love is my current Standie - He was a Stallion until 3 weeks ago and he is just beautiful, kind and gentle. He has established all his gaits as he never raced - he was too small he only stands at 14.1hh. I show him and have just competed at the Royal Adelaide show in Sept. I call him my heart horse as he captured mine and he will be with me forever.

Re:Standerdbreds - 2008/10/23 17:26 i have a standardbreed too named Magic and i also have retraine some, but now we have stop retraining them because we had lost the stable where we were doing that. Hope i will be able to do it again it was fun and we have save a lot by doing that, because people here think that standardbreed are just good to race until we show them all we can do.

Re:Standerdbreds - 2008/10/23 23:58 Over the years I have had 5 or 6 off the track, I lost my old man to colic at the age of 22 in 2005 he was one of the coolest (and meanest) animals I have ever been around. Currently I have an old trotter who raced until he was 6, I broke him to saddle as a 3 year old when he was getting some time off from training....loaned him to a local woman for a year who rode him in parades and foxhunted with him. The arthritis in his hocks got to the point where he couldn't stay sound for any hard work, so now he just babysits my crazy thoroughbred and hacks once in a while when I need another horse.
