Wow now thats horsey orientated!!! I may not have won any ribbons lately, have a Dad who breeds horses as a business, own 11 horses or own a monkey (ok if you count the husband then yeah I own a monkey) but I think I am just as involved with horses as you are, especially if you are going on how much you love them. I have the naughtest miniature horse on the planet (not in a bad way, more of a cheeky naughty horse). I have a rescued Timor Pony who loves to carry around his feed bowl in his mouth, whether it be up hills or down he'll carry the jolly thing around with him for ...well gee...cant quite find a reason why actually! I have a palomino mare who loves to say "Hi" to you like repeatively every couple of minutes while you are in her paddock (rather annoying when I am trying to clear the paddock of poop). I have a colt who thinks hes a dog and tries to hop inside peoples vehicles. I have a 20 year old TB that acts so sweet and gracefull not ridden, get on his back and he drops 15 years or so and becomes a ball of energy! And you know what? I would not have them any other way. They are part of my family and I love them all to bits!!!!

Well it certianly sounds like both of you belong here in the horse lovers haven. You should have lots to share with stories and all. I am horse crazy as well I do not show, I am a chicken, but I do have 11 horses 2 of which belong to my daughter and yes I do have a rescued mini gelding that thinks he is as big and mighty as our Clydesdale. He is actually truely entertaining and loves playing with the young horses. I can not believe that little guy was dumped because they thought he was mean and dangerous. I own lots of breeds of horses Mustangs, Kiger Mustangs, Morgan Appaloosa, Clydsedale, Miniature and Pintaloosa. I never could stick to one breed I love em' all. ---------

Nippy, a Clydesdale with hairy boots? They look lovely indeed. Very impressive. I'm sure you'll get one, if you want one that much. That land will follow suit ---------

That is a great picture. I do so hope you get your Clyde on day I really have had fun with mine, even if she can be a challenge at times. I am pretty sure you could fit all 4 of those kids up here. ---------

Re:Horses - 2007/01/27 21:39
Claudia is a not so big Clyde (just a hair under 17hands) that went thru' a number of owners 13 to be exact before she came my way. The sad part she is only 15 yrs old. She never truely bonded with anyone and she learned with the previous owner before we purchsed her how to bully with her size. Not to mention how to pitch a fit if she does not want to work, Yes Clydesdales can kick up those back heels. She is strong and responds only to a firm strong confident rider. She is a bear to ride in an arena where most her bad attitude kicks in. But she is a pretty darn good trail horse, once you get her pointed in the right direction. I have become frustrated with her in the 3 yrs we have owned her, leased her out once with an option for the person to buy for 8 mths. Claudia knocked the lady out that leased her with her big ol' head. I was sick with the thought the lady would decide to purchase Claudia, I missed her terribly. Thankfully, she was brought back to my home. We spent some time trying to get Claudia in foal to no avail', she only absorbs all foals. I tryed riding her with a trainer but got frustrated once again with her bucking fits. Put her up for sale, found a buyer and last minute backed out crying, I just could not do it. So I ride her more and sold a differant horse, of course the more she is ridden' the better she is. By the way she is no longer a bully her ground manners are very good. I must love her because keeping her fed and in shoes cost a small fortune.
Or I am just CRAZY ---------

She sounds like a handful! So unlike the Clyde nature, well the ones I have known. Have you tried putting her to the cart?

Well Luvallbreeds, with children you also can't chose them and know what they are like when they've grown up (no guarentee attached good education always has success for 100%) and they always stay your children, no matter what, so I think this goes for your horse as well wafter she has touched your heart....

Re:Horses - 2007/01/28 20:22
Nippy she was trained to the cart and spent 8 years pulling before she was broke to ride to preform dressage. I have no knowledge of driving myself let alone the money to invest in the get up..harness and cart. I have spoke to many Clydesdale owners and Claudia acts very much like a mare. The Clydesdale geldings being much more larger and laid back. The majority of draft folks I have spoke with say the Clydes are the hotter of the drafts and why they are not as popular as the Belgians and Percherons. Still I think it all boils down to individual horse, I know guy with a very awnry Belgian mare he loves to death. I also have a friend with a Clyde mare that insists on one good buck then she is ready to ride. Then my farrier owns a Clydesdale gelding that is super sweet lover of a horse, who is never in a hurry. So who knows, I do know if Claudia really wanted to protest she could get whatever she wanted with all that bulk, but it is as if she tests me to be sure I am a bigger bully and prepared to be boss. ---------

Re:Horses - 2007/01/28 21:26
I know I must have had a very limited experience with Clydes or struck only the quiet ones. Because I was told that as a young 2 year old I was found (after a panic of a half an hour search high and low of our home and property, neighbours place included) I was found at the end of our road swinging around the legs of 2 cylde cart horses that were pitched to rest while the driver dozed in the Gypsy wagon(unaware of my antics). My Mum said she couldn't believe how the horses stood stock still and allowed me to run under their bellies and go from one giant furry leg to the other swinging and laughing. I also used to go to a Christian camp in the school holidays and there they had a clyde called Dolly. She was big and beautiful. She never battered an eyelid with so many kids running around her as she was hitched to the cart or lead to and from her paddock. I have been to shows and seen the clydes hitched to the side of their trailers waiting to be called upon to show off their solid muscled forms in the ring. They all, each and evryone of them just stood there for their owners while heavy tack, buckles and belts and fancy sheilds and ribbons were attached to them. I remember walking past one all tangled up in her lead rope. She just stood there with her head inches off the ground(unable to pull it up due to having the lead wrapped around her front feet). It was a hot day and I could see she wanted to drink from the nearby bucket of water. But she stood there waiting for help as calm as can be. ( I ended up helping her as I couldn't see her owner anywhere but I got severly growled at by the owner as he rounded a corner to see me retie the lead to the truck. I guess I was naughty for doing that.) When I was doing an Equestrain Course the class was taken to a stud and shwn around. There they were breeding cyde Xs.We were lead into a paddock and told to wait. And before long an earth shacking rumble could be felt before being heard. Then we all gasped as 4 mares flew over the top of the hill and galloped down to where were standing. Behind them ran a clyde stallion. As they slowed and stopped before us the stallion worked his way between his mares right up to the stud owner. He lowered his massive head and allowed himself to be scratched and rubbed around his ears and neck.
So yes I have a rather romantic view of clydes but i love them!

LOL...Oh do not get me wrong Claudia will stand still for hours you can groom her, sit atop her back as long as you like. I sit on the ground below her every spring and summer grooming her beutiful feathers to a long glorious white. Scratch her belly and she is in heaven. But get on her back and and ask her to leave the farm alone and you will not get far. Ride in the arena and ask for a canter..you will get a buck first. She is just full of personality, sometimes we just have differant ideas ---------
